The construction of the G4 cluster occurred in basically three stages. The first phase was the initial purchase and testing of two G3 based computers with Linux and several networking options.
The second phase was the construction of a 16 node cluster of single processor G4s. The bulk of the construction consisted of the unpacking and setup of 14 of the 16 G4s and the installation of 512MB DIMMs. This took approximately 1.5 hours.
The third stage consisted of the addition of 16 dual processor G4s to the cluster. Here the single processor machines are on the left and several dual processor machines have been unpacked on the right.
