Photo-realistic Image Rendering
PHOTON is a project which features a unique approach
to computer graphics; incorporating new hardware and software ideas to provide
the world's first photo-realistic 3-D rendering and viewing environment.
PHOTON incoporates a number of new ideas that are currently being
tested: A hardware configuration that provides perfect stereoptic separation
and is within human perception limits for monocular depth, contrast,
resolution, and color differences; a software model that accounts for
everything light does that affects human perception; and an unusual direct
comparison between reality, digitally-photographed reality, and computer-
synthesized imagery that may bring computer graphics to its long-sought
goal of perfect realism for the first time. We combine expertise in
the areas of computer hardware, computer software, optical physics, and
human perception to succeed in this venture.
