The major activities of the Scalable Computing Laboratory within the AMS program consist of performance analysis research and the development of algorithms and tools for scientific computing. These two areas have considerable overlap, since application programs make excellent benchmarks and the effort to measure performance often results in the discovery of ways to increase performance.
