Failures of the Current Approach

In this section, we provide three examples illustrating the failure of the currently-used programming paradigm. The first example deals with assumptions by certain system software designers regarding end user input accuracy and output error. The second example illustrates how low performance can result when the application programmer tries to guess the compiler behavior. The last example notes how personal computer purchasers (end users) often use irrelevant hardware criteria in making their purchase decisions.
