Inside the USA
Commercial
Commercial users should use the ViaCrypt version to be free of RSA patent
infringement problems with
RSA Data Security
and the IDEA patents held by Ascom-Tech AG and ETH.
Government
Government users should use the ViaCrypt versions to comply with the
license agreement between Phillip Zimmermann and ViaCrypt
and the IDEA patents held by Ascom-Tech AG and ETH.
Personal
The
MIT release
is recommended for non-commercial and non-government use. It should be
free of patent and licensing problems for personal use.
Outside the USA
PGP is widely available outside the US. However, the state department
considers it a munition so DO NOT EXPORT IT FROM THE USA YOURSELF.
Instead, if you are not in the USA or Canada, please get it from a site already with-in
your political sphere or from someplace that allows legal export. A
