Origin of PGP

Version 1.0 was written by Philip Zimmerman in 1991.

Version 2.0 was written by many people around the world.

Version 2.3a is the most recent free worldwide official PGP release.

Version 2.6ui is an Unofficial International version which can interoperate with 2.6 and 2.7.

Version 2.6 is the first version considered to be free of possible patent infringement in the US.

Version 2.6.2 is the current non-commercial version available from MIT.

Version 2.7.1 is the current commercial version from ViaCrypt.
